Foot and Ankle Surgery

Print E-mail

Foot surgery and ankle surgery are highly specialized fields with unique sets of conditions, treatments, and rehabilitation procedures. Early intervention in foot and ankle care in an advanced medical setting assures patients the best possible care. Our orthopaedic foot surgeons are trained in the surgical treatment of neuropathy and treat many conditions such as, but not limited to, torn ankle ligaments and tendons, ankle spur surgery, and Achilles lengthening and ankle arthritis treatments.

Due to microscopic and endoscopic surgical advances, many conditions can now be corrected in day surgery, without an overnight hospital stay.

Podiatry

Podiatrists are the first line of defense in foot care. The unique combination of podiatry within an orthopaedic surgical practice allows early intervention in foot and ankle care in an advanced medical setting. When painful feet prevent a patient from wearing shoes or walking normally, there is a reason. SportsMed podiatrists may suggest medical tests, such as x-rays, to determine bone deformities, spurs, or stress fractures. Other in-house diagnostic procedures such as an MRI, which helps identify soft tissue damage and doppler tests, which are useful in measuring blood flow to the foot, are evaluation tools that will assist in proper diagnosis. Blood tests can be used to detect medical conditions such as infection, diabetes, arthritis, or anemia, which can cause many foot disorders. Our podiatrists can provide treatment options for calluses, hammertoes, bunions, ingrown toenails, heel pain, and many other common foot disorders.

Wound Center

The SportsMED foot and ankle team recently opened the Wound Center at SportMED. The treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, or DFUs, has long been a major challenge for medical professionals. Today, the ability of clinical practitioners to effectively manage and heal DFUs has dramatically increased thanks to advanced treatment with Dermagraft- available through SportsMED.
