Industrial injuries and illnesses covered under Workers’ Compensation offer special challenges to the human resource/Worker’s Compensation professional. Early diagnosis and treatment are critical to returning an injured worker to his job as soon as possible.

At SportsMed, we strive to reduce both medical costs and time lost from work, while providing excellent medical care to the injured worker. We contain costs by taking a conservative approach to the use of ancillary services and testing procedures. Appropriate work restrictions and light duty assignments help keep the worker active during recuperation.

Our work Comp Team works with the patient, referring physician, employer, case manager, and insurance adjustor to provide timely appointments and Return-to-Work status and notes. To provide better patient care to our injured workers, SportsMED included the following services in our new Huntsville Clinic:

• On-line Appointment Request -With our new on-line system, case managers and employers can request an appointment via our website. A Work Comp Team member will contact you to coordinate the injured worker’s appointment.
• MRI – We will pre-cert all appointments. Appointments are available before clinic begins as well as Saturday appointments.
• Pharmacy – Our convenient on-site pharmacy directly bills the worker’s compensation carrier or the carrier’s pharmaceutical benefit management plan so there is no out-of-pocket expense to the patient. For questions regarding prescriptions and insurance call the SportsMED pharmacy at 256-319-8502.
• Physical Therapy – SportsMED will pre-cert all physical therapy appointments. Our certified physical therapists provide physical therapy as well as functional capacity evaluations and decompression therapy. Please call our physical therapy department at 256-319-8500 with any questions.

Preventative Measures

At SportsMed, we understand the value of work-injury prevention and provide education to our patients in proper body mechanics, ergonomic positioning, and post-injury rehabilitation.

Patients with on-the-job injuries should provide us with employer’s name and address and we will verify in advance that your treatment for an on-the-job injury is covered. Should the employer deny the claim, the worker becomes personally responsible for payment.
