Dr. Alexander is a Board Certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and joint replacement surgery. A graduate of Washington and Lee University in Virginia, he received his M.D. from Vanderbilt University. In 1987, he completed his orthopaedic residency at the Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, South Carolina. In 1988, he completed a combined fellowship in joint replacement surgery and sports medicine, the former at New England Baptist Hospital and the latter at Children's Hospital, both in Boston. Dr. Alexander was one of the founding physicians for the Joint Center at Huntsville Hospital East.

Brett Franklin, M.D.

Dr. Franklin graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He received his Medical Degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile, AL in 2003. After completing his orthopaedic residency at the Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, NC in 2008, he completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Dr. Franklin is a native of Huntsville and attended Grissom High School. He is on the active staff at Crestwood Hospital and the Surgery Center of Huntsville.

Eric Janssen, M.D.

Dr. Eric Janssen is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine with an emphasis in the diagnosis and treatment of knee and shoulder injuries. His interest in the specialty came from his own experience as a high school and college athlete. He graduated from Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, West Virginia in 1986 and completed his residency at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. In 1992, he completed a sports medicine fellowship at Hughston Orthopaedic Clinic in Columbus, Georgia. He is Board Certified and has held numerous professional appointments, including his current position as Affiliate Instructor for UAHuntsville College of Nursing. Dr. Janssen serves as Director of Research and President of SportsMED Orthopaedic Surgery & Spine Center. He is the team physician for several area high schools as well as a number of local colleges and universities.
Dr. Janssen has published several articles on ACL reconstruction techniques and has participated in numerous research studies of the knee and shoulder. He is currently conducting post market research on articular cartilage repair.

Troy Layton, M.D.

Dr. Layton is a specialist in sports medicine and a 1989 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama. After completing his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Florida in Gainesville in 1994, he completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Oklahoma. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and has served as team physician and consultant for such notable teams as University of Florida and Oklahoma State University as well as consultant for the Milwaukee Brewers and Major League Baseball. He is currently performing cartilage transplantation of the knee. Dr. Layton is a course instructor for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in advanced knee ligament reconstructive procedures as well as a Clinical Instructor at UAB.

Dr. Culpepper is an experienced orthopaedist with an interest in sports medicine and joint replacement surgery. He is a graduate of Davidson College. He received his M.D. from the University of Mississippi. He completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Mississippi which included an AO trauma fellowship in Davos, Switzerland with specific study of fracture care. He continued his training in Carticel’s cartilage transplant technique and is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Culpepper holds professional affiliation with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as well as regional and local orthopaedic and medical societies. He serves as team physician for several local high schools.

Dr. Higginbotham specializes in the practice of general orthopaedics with special interest in knee, hip, and elbow joint replacement. Other areas of special interest include shoulder, knee arthroscopy, and carpal tunnel surgeries. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1972. During his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, he served as chief resident. He is Board Certified and holds fellowship status in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. His many years of clinical and surgical experience is enriched by the numerous professional associations he holds. He currently serves as Chairperson of the Physician Advisory Board of Blue Cross/Blue Shield P.M.D. and is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the UAB Clinical Center in Huntsville.

Dr. Moore graduated Summa Cum Laude from Harding University, where he received significant recognition for his academic accomplishments and sports activities. He attended the University of Alabama in Birmingham and obtained his M.D. degree in 1993. Afterwards, he completed his internship and residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Dr. Moore is a native of Huntsville/Madison County, and is a member of numerous medical and orthopaedic professional associations. He has a special interest in sports medicine and joint replacement. Dr. Moore is available for appointments at both the Athens and Madison offices.

Dr. Tindell received a B.S. in Chemistry and Mathematics from the University of Tennessee and an M.D. from the University of Tennessee in Memphis. A portion of his undergraduate training took place at West Point. He has practiced orthopaedic medicine since 1987 receiving specialized training in Orthopaedic Surgery with Dr. Rocco A. Calandruccio at the Campbell Clinic. Dr. Tindell is Board Certified and serves as team physician for several local high schools and as a board member for United Cerebral Palsy. He maintains numerous professional affiliations.
