Board-certified orthopedic surgeon Jonathan Ludwig, MD, is proud to bring his expertise to the Madison and Huntsville, Alabama, locations of SportsMED Orthopedic Surgery & Spine Center. He proudly offers comprehensive care to patients suffering from hand, wrist, arm, and shoulder conditions. 

Dr. Ludwig received his bachelor’s degree in bioengineering at Rice University in Houston, Texas, and was a Trustee Distinguished Scholar and Rice/Baylor Medical Scholar. He completed his Doctor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. 

Dr. Ludwig furthered his training and received a fellowship from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery. Dr. Ludwig is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

With a special interest in treating patients with hand, arm, and shoulder (upper extremity) injuries and issues, Dr. Ludwig chooses the most innovative and effective treatments. He enjoys communicating with patients about their individualized care and providing the most manageable treatment plans. Dr. Ludwig is also skilled at treating more intense injuries that may require complex procedures, like saving and restoring health to a limb or replantation (where a limb is reattached to the body). 

He is proud to be involved in the advancement of his field, publishing articles on digital nerve and flexor tendon repair, and as a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
